چکیده

Recommender systems apply knowledge discovery techniques to the problem of making personalized recommendations for information, products or services during a live interaction. In this paper we analyze three different recommendation generation algorithms. We look into three different techniques for computing similarities for obtaining recommendations from them. On the basis of various parameters we conclude Collaborative filtering using Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient provides better quality than the

Mining strongly correlated item pairs in large transaction databases

Correlation mining is an approach of drawing statistical relationship between items from transaction data. Most of the existing techniques use Pearson’s correlation coefficient as a measure of correlation, which may not always perform well when data are noisy and binary in nature. Moreover, they require multi-pass over the database. This paper presents an effective and faster correlation mining...

Bipolar Rating Scales: A Survey and Novel Correlation Measures Based on Nonlinear Bipolar Scoring Functions

A bipolar rating scale is a linearly ordered set with symmetry between elements considered as negative and positive categories. First, we present a survey of bipolar rating scales used in psychology, sociology, medicine, recommender systems, opinion mining, and sentiment analysis. We discuss different particular cases of bipolar scales and, in particular, typical structures of bipolar scales wi...

Towards a Localized Version of Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient

Pearson’s correlation coefficient is used to describe dependence between random variables X and Y . In some practical situations, however, we have strong correlation for some values X and/or Y and no correlation for other values ofX and Y . To describe such a local dependence, we come up with a natural localized version of Pearson’s correlation coefficient. We also study the properties of the n...

Prediction of Users Behavior through Correlation Rules

Web usage mining is an application of Web mining which focus on the extraction of useful information from usage data of severs logs. In order to improve the usability of a Web site so that users can more easily find and retrieve information they are looking for, we proposed a recommendation methodology based on correlation rules. A correlation rule is measured not only by its support and confid...

COMPARISON OF VALUES OF PEARSON’S AND SPEARMAN’S CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS ON THE SAME SETS OF DATA jan hauke, tomasz kossowski

Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient is a nonparametric (distribution-free) rank statistic proposed by Charles Spearman as a measure of the strength of an association between two variables. It is a measure of a monotone association that is used when the distribution of data makes Pearson’s correlation coefficient undesirable or misleading. Spearman’s coefficient is not a measure of the linea...
